Anonymous Storytelling: Embracing South Asian Experiences

A Bit About Me

I am a first-generation South Asian Punjabi woman, born and raised in London. I’m in my 40s, with two kids and a husband. After getting married, I spent a total of six months living with my in-laws. I have a job (bullshit, full-time, exhausting nonsense).

I love storytelling and feel I’m much better at it in real life. But for now, I’ll need to write anonymously. If I wrote under my real name, my parents (both illiterate) would loose their fucking shit. I want to share stories they may not be happy to reveal. Stories about what it’s like growing up, getting married, working, being a mum, sister, and friend. I would always question my mum about things that were going on – and my mum would always tell me to Chup! So now this is my voice.

I want to tell stories I’ve lived, seen, and heard. This isn’t idle gossip; it’s about sharing and learning. I know everyone has stories, and my family isn’t the only circus out there. I want a safe space to share mine and hear yours.

What I’ve Been Doing This Week:

  • Researching ADHD and wondering if I have it.
  • Wondering what my life would be like if I had a dog.

This is all dedicated to my mummy the bravest women I know – where your voice was so quiet I will shout (anonymously). Let’s find all our like minded warrior women.
